The government doles out £100 million per year to French company Atos Healthcare in return for re-assessing Incapacity Benefit claimants for the new Employment Support Allowance (ESA). However there is growing evidence that the system Atos uses to conduct its assessments is not only deeply flawed but also deeply inhumane, leading to suspicions that the government’s true intention is to merely drive as many disabled claimants off benefit as possible, irrespective of the seriousness of their condition.
